𝗔𝗗𝗦 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀 & 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮: 𝗔-𝗭 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 Ever wondered how Data Science can be applied to every-day problems? In this ADS Drinks & Data Meetup we hear from three Data Scientist about the work they've carried out, from identifying the problem to how they used Data Science to solve it. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗸𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗿𝗽 Lead Digital Humanities Lab at KNAW Chair 𝗗𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗱𝗶𝗷𝗸 Lead Data Scientist at RTL Invited Talk #1 Topic: Searching to be Entertained Daan is the Lead Data Scientist at RTL, where he takes on the challenges of a broadcaster, such as delivering content more personally. Daan was previously at Blendle, leading a team of data scientist and engineers to help the news aggregator become more data-driven and the user experience more personal. As an applied researcher, he actively pursues collaborations to put research into practice. Daan enjoys bridging disciplines and the challenges of working with a team to use data to improve a product experience. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗻 PhD candidate in Computational Linguistics at VU Invited Talk #2 Topic: Alternative Facts: Finding Contradicting Information In and Across Texts Chantal van Son is a PhD candidate in Computational Linguistics and is conducting her research in the Computational Lexicology and Terminology Lab (CLTL) at the VU Amsterdam. Her research focuses on finding contradicting information in and across texts, for instance when one fact is in conflict with another, or when two people express different perspectives towards the same statement. In the age of 'alternative facts', 'fake news' and 'filter bubbles', she hopes to contribute to more complete, transparent and balanced access to information for web users. Her use case is the online vaccination debate, which has been one of the most heated and polarised debate topics for years now, and which impact on public health is evident. 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶 Model Risk Oversight at ING Invited Talk #3 Topic: Data Science and Modelling Flavia is working for ING Bank in Model Risk Oversight. She has joined ING Bank in January 2019 in Model Validation. Before ING, Flavia has been working for UniCredit Group as quantitative analyst, on design and development of internal models on the trading book side (Counterparty Credit Risk) and stress tests for behavioural models (Interest Rate Risk) on the banking book side. Before joining the banking sector, Flavia has worked as Maître de Conférences at University of Lyon (Mathematics and Mathematical Applications), after a 1 year Post-Doc position in quantitative finance and applied mathematics at University of Florence. She is still active in scientific research. Flavia holds a PhD in Mathematics for Economic Decisions obtained through a joint program between University of Pisa & University of Toulouse. She believes that research and risk modeling can benefit from synergies between science and business to meet the challenging demands for ‘’future banking’’.
