Wat we doen

Wish you knew more about the world around you? Gravity, Iranian politics, or maybe the sociological aspects of potato farming? Come join the Amsterdam Non-Fiction Book Club!

We love reading non-fiction: it's a good yarn (usually), ánd you get a new perspective on things. Every couple of weeks, we pick a book, read it, and then discuss it. You're welcome to join us!

Discuss 'Here Be Chickens', from Douglas Adams' 'Last Chance to See'

In 'Last Chance to See', Douglas Adams (yes, that one) and zoologist Mark Carwardine visit the volunteers protecting endangered species. For this meetup, we'll be reading 'Here Be Chickens', about the efforts to protect the Indonesian Komodo dragon. Feel free to read the other essays as well - but don't feel obliged! The idea behind the essay meetups is that they're easier on your schedule.

Discuss 'The Age of Surveillance Capitalism', by Shoshana Zuboff

*Changed date! It's on Sunday April 28th!* Facebook's genocide complicity, Google's contested search engine, China's Social Credit system: it's become very clear that technology is no longer *only* a boon to society. Where will this end? In her book 'The Age of Surveillance Capitalism', Shoshanna Zuboff investigates the data-industrial complex, and the impact it has on our social order.
