Hiking and scrambling in Wadi Rum & Petra (Jordan)
++ this is a trip where we will team up with my Berlin-based meetup group 'Berlin Outdoor & Urban Adventurers' https://www.meetup.com/de-DE/Berlin-Outdoor-Adventurers/ ++ Jordan lends itself perfectly for an adventurous outdoor escape in the winter season. On the one hand, temperatures are mild and well suited for outdoor activities in the cold months, on the other hand, Jordan is a relatively safe and easily accessible country for travelling boasting with Wadi Rum and Petra two of the most spectacular and unique cultural and natural heritage sites our planet has to offer. Wadi Rum in the south of Jordan is a desert landscape of almost otherwordly beauty with magnificient sandstone mountains rising majestically above the reddish desert sand whereas the visit to Petra, an ancient city being entirely carved out of the rocks and being one of the seven world wonders, is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience . WHAT DOES IT COST? 325 EUR + ca. 103 EUR for international flights (355 EUR for optional visit to Petra instead of ‘Little Petra’). 65 EUR is the amout for the down payment to be made via paypal upon RSVP which is why I passed it in as a price. Syrian, Egyptian, Indian, Turkish, Japanese, South African and Hong Kong passport holders only pay 270 EUR for the trip (+60 EUR entrance fee if they want to visit Petra) since they are entitled to visa-free entry to Jordan or get the on-arrival visa for free; see a complete list of countries which are exempted from visa fees: https://passports.io/jordan) HOW TO BOOK THE FLIGHTS? please go on www.easyjet.com and book a ticket SXF - AQJ,[masked], 10:15 (currently 53,- EUR) please go on www.ryanair.com and book AMM - BRU,[masked], 12:55 (currently 37 EUR) SHOULD I BUY A JORDAN PASS OR JUST A NORMAL VISA? The so-called Jordan Pass which was introduced in September 2015 covers the entrance fee for all major tourist sites and waives all visa fees in case of a minimum stay of 3 nights. Although it comes at a price of 70 JOD (around 85 EUR) it is the best option if you definitely want to visit Petra (without Jordan Pass you would pay 40 JOD for single entry visa + 5 jOD entrance fee for Wadi Rum Protected Area + 50 JOD entrance fee for Petra = 95 JOD). If you prefer the cost-free and less crowded archeological site ‘Siq al Barid’, also known as ‘Little Petra’, just 13 km further north, you should rather go for an arrival visa at the airport for 40 JOD and pay 5 JOD for Wadi Rum Protected Area at the Visitor’s Center, thus saving 30 EUR. HOW TO BUY A JORDAN PASS? Just go on https://www.jordanpass.jo/ and pass in your personal and credit card details and you receive your electronic Jordan pass immediately upon payment via e-mail. You then just need to present your e-ticket with your smartphone in Jordan WHAT IS INCLUDED? -bus ticket Amsterdam - Berlin -bus ticket Brussels - Amsterdam -visa fee for Jordan -entry fee for Wadi Rum Protected Area -3 stays overnight in traditional Bedouin camps -1 stay overnight in a hostel in Amman -guided walk through Rakabat canyon -guided walk up Jebel Burdah rock bridge -all other activities -all meals in Jordan -rental cars and fuel for 4 days WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED -flight Berlin - Aqaba -flight Amman - Brussels -dinner at Brussels airport ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ KEEN ON THIS TRIP?
