Wat we doen

Hi You! We're a colourful bunch of people. All connected by the fact that meditation is special for us. Whether you meditate 2 hours a day or you have the intention to start meditating, you're the same welcome.

This group has a long history. As the old organizer stepped down, I (Francisco) recently became the group organizer. I like the old motto of this group 'We don't have one leader or teacher'. So please feel free to share any meditation/mindfulness-related event, whether it has to do with for example mantra singing, Vipassana, mindfulness, breathing techniques, shamanic meditations or dynamic meditations.

Weekly Mindfulness Meetup

Amsterdam Mindfulness

Every Sunday at 13.00 you're welcome to join. This meetup is open for everyone (both advanced & complete beginners). Usually we are with a small group of 4-8 persons. The meetup takes place at my home. We'll do a few mindfulness meditations. Every week there's a certain topic, like for example self-acceptance or negative thought patterns. We can 'use' mindfulness in two ways; first of all as a way to explore our inner and outer world. For example when we try to connect to discomforting thoughts or feelings and curiously observe what is there to observe. Second, we can use mindfulness as a way to deal with things. For example when we try to simply stay with discomforting feelings. Many participants have their own regular meditation practice. This meetup can be of help to keep up with that. * Donation based Donations are welcome. A standard donation is 5 or 10 euro. If your income situation doesn't allow it, then it's also okay not to donate anything. You're the same welcome. * Who am I I'm Francisco, I'm teaching mindfulness through my school Amsterdam Mindfulness. if you like to know more about the courses & workshops I offer, check www.amsterdam-mindfulness.nl. Do you have any question or suggestion? Feel free to contact me at [masked]. I hope to see you at one of the meetups! - Francisco ---------------- This event is published in the Meditation and Self-inquiry meetup group. This group is a free and open space for anyone who would like to share meditation and self-enquiry activities. Please feel invited to organise your own event via this group too, contact Anna.

8 weeks Mindfulness course (MBCT)

Amsterdam Mindfulness

Mindfulness is an incredible tool to reduce stress and suffering and at the same time find more joy and focus. Read below some typical examples where mindfulness can help. >> Rita (28) is very sensitive for the weather. Now autumn has started in Amsterdam, she feels slightly depressed by the endless rain and grey skies. She is less energised and feels tempted to stay inside her flat watching Netflix. >> Aron (35) has a demanding job as a consultant. He works 50+ hours a week (apart from time spent commuting). He tries to balance things by visiting the gym 3 times a week, attending salsa lessons at the weekend and meeting friends almost every evening. Just lately he seems to lose control. He wakes up exhausted and can't enjoy things anymore. He doesn't know what to do to find back his balance. >> Marleen (24) is a PhD-student. She is used to deal with deadlines and stress. Lately things don't go so well. The quality of her output is less than what she demands of herself. She tries to compensate by working extra hours. But she almost can't focus and suffers from insomnia. The fact that her extra effort doesn't bring much causes extra stress and frustration. Like most people, Rita, Aron and Marleen respond reactively (= automatically) to their circumstances. And that's dangerous. Our automatic responses are not always the right answer to the present situation. Some typical examples of dangerous reactions: - ruminating "why" we feel low - ignoring how we feel by pushing ourselves harder when we are already at our limits - criticising ourselves ("not again!") in a way which is reminiscent of how our parent(s)/school teacher used to criticise us Mindfulness helps you seeing the present moment with clarity. This enables you to consciously choose your next action. So you train yourself in responding to situations rather than reacting. Benefits of more mindfulness include enjoying the present moment better, better self-care, saving yourself extra stress, time and frustration by not trying to change things you can't change, having more focus, connecting deeper to people around you, responding more adequately to present challenges. This 8-week MBCT mindfulness course is proven to be effective in growing your mindfulness. For 8 consecutive weeks you meet with a small group of people (max 8). In between the sessions there are home exercises like meditations and journalling. I (Francisco) am a certified mindfulness trainer (VVM certified) and client centered psychologist. I have given this training already many times. What makes my training different from comparable mindfulness trainings is not so much the content (it's a standardised protocol), but rather how I teach it. Interaction, practical applicability of exercises and true non-judgement are key ingredients in my trainings so you will feel safe & motivated. For more information about my background or other courses & workshops, you can check my website www.amsterdam-mindfulness.nl. Practical: - dates: 6, 13, 20, 27 November, 4, 11, 18 December, 8 January - time:[masked] - price: 290 euro (250 euro if your gross household income is below 2500 euro) if your company pays: 420 euro excluding VAT *** early bird: you receive 20 euro reduction if you register before October 20th *** - location: Granaatstraat 38, Amsterdam - group size: maximum 8 persons Registration: send me an email at [masked] If you have any questions about the course and/or you like to meet me in person, then you're welcome to visit one of the weekly Sunday mindfulness meetups at 13.00 at the same location.
