Nigerian Author: Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
For our November meetup, we chose Grace's suggestion: Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award (Fiction) and was selected as one of the 10 Best Books of 2013 by the editors of the New York Times Book Review. What is the book about? According to Goodreads, "Ifemelu and Obinze are young and in love when they depart military-ruled Nigeria for the West. Beautiful, self-assured Ifemelu heads for America, where despite her academic success, she is forced to grapple with what it means to be black for the first time. Quiet, thoughtful Obinze had hoped to join her, but with post-9/11 America closed to him, he instead plunges into a dangerous, undocumented life in London. Fifteen years later, they reunite in a newly democratic Nigeria, and reignite their passion—for each other and for their homeland." Getting the Book 1. We will be confirming the reservation a number of days before the event to ensure we get a table. (Please be aware that you are free to eat and/or drink at this location.) Once again, please ensure you let us know in advance if you intend to come and if your availability changes, please do update your status. We would really appreciate it and the restaurant too! Thank you and look forward to seeing you there :-)

    Wat we doen

If you want to share your joy of reading, come and join our book club!

This is how it works (we can make any adjustments along the way):

    1. We'll get together usually once a month.

    2. We meet at a members' home.

    3. At the beginning of each meetup, everyone is welcome to propose our next reunion book. We'll talk about them and vote. (Book will always be available in Kindle format.)

    4. During our session, we'll use book group discussion questions, reviews, interviews, and anything that can liven and enlighten our talks.
