"WordPress is a lot like music -- there's always more to learn about it."
We are a community of people -- designers and programmers, experts and aspirants, volunteers and business people, citizens and public servants -- who gather to share our knowledge and experience, our successes and challenges, our war stories and adventures in creating websites with WordPress. Our goal is to help each other develop awesome, engaging, useful and, yes, revenue-generating sites.
Our community is open to all who love WordPress or who want to learn more about it. Come join us, have some fun, share what you know, learn from others, and help guide where we go with this group and what we do.
Welcome to the Fall Kickoff event of our[masked] season! We are excited to resume holding our events on a monthly basis. PLEASE NOTE: this year we will be holding our events on a new day (second Wednesday of the month) starting and ending at new times (6:15 PM and 8:00 PM, respectively) AND meeting a new central Manchester location (in the Millyard).
Here's the agenda for our October event:
6:15 Doors open for mixing, mingling, and refreshments
6:30 Welcome and introductions
6:45 Gutenberg Reconsidered - Lisa Popa and Jonathan May
The release of WordPress 5.0 in December 2018 brought with it the so-called Gutenberg block editor, which delighted some, horrified others, and made for lots of lively debate. While some doubters still prefer the classic editor, the block editor is here to stay, like it or not. So, let's take a look at some ways we can make the most of this evolving tool. To start, we will review a case study of how templates created from reusable blocks helped a client speed up their publishing process while ensuring a consistent look-and-feel to their content. We will also review some other features and techniques for using Gutenberg that you may not be familiar with, and could make your block editing experience more satisfying and productive.
7:30 The[masked] Meetup season: We'll discuss some changes to the format of the Meetup events, and solicit ideas for topics the group would like to cover, as well as (of course) volunteers to present topics or lead discussions at future events.
7:50 Wrap Up
