The Seattle Hypnosis/NLP Meetup Group Message Board › Thank you for attending today

Thank you for attending today

A former member
Hello, all, thank you for joining me today. Here is a brief recap of the meeting.
1. People often find it difficult to change an unwanted habit or behavior not because they lack willpower or motivation, but because they have opposing motivations.
2. The rational mind provides justification and reasoning, but it is the emotional and the primitive (reptilian) brains that determine which behavior is activated in a given context. It is useless to talk to the thinking, rational mind. It is not in charge.
3. To resolve the inner conflict, we need to gain rapport with the part that runs the unwanted behavior and discover its motivation.
4. Parts will never agree on a behavior level. We need to chunk up to higher levels of motivation.
5. Separate the behavior from the intention. We object to the behavior, but the intention we agree with. Smoking is bad, but relaxation is good.
6. Watch for thinking mind hijacking the  session. Stay connected to the feeling.
7. Watch their face and body language. As they go to higher and higher levels, their physiology will reflect it.
8. As you go through a process of parts integration, a person will enter a nice trance.
9. Change happens when opposing parts recognize that their motivations are not in conflict and agree to pool their resources. This gives a person more flexibility of thinking and more choices.
10. The more you involve the body neurology, the better the outcome.
Thank you, G. Ray and Doug for helping me today. See you next time.
