Fellow Book Readers,

I recently took over from Janet as the group Organizer -- and picked Lorraine as Assistant. I've also consulted with half a dozen of you over these past weeks. Now over these coming months, I'll make a series of changes.

Here is an overview:

-- As of tomorrow, the group will no longer be private. Still, you can trust me that we'll keep the group safe. (Except from me, of course. LOL!) This will allow non-members to view our activities -- and increase the possibility of their joining us.

-- I'll pick the monthly selection for the two or three few months. ("I'm the Decider!" LOL!)

-- This will give us time to experiment with and find optimal ways to select our readings. I want the group to be user-friendly and warm, full of a sense of possibilities, a place where everyone knows s/he counts.

-- While maintaining the current format and location for the time being, I plan on offering an alternate date/location each month so that folks have a second chance to discuss the selected book. So that if Saturday or the Marigny doesn't work for you, or you can't make the meeting or are not finished reading, there is a second chance. (Let's experiment with this and if it turns out to be a bad idea, well, good! We will have learned something -- together.)

-- I plan to grow the offerings each month as the group will grow. And believe me -- or not! -- it will. And I will. Yes, I'd like to offer the option to read short stories -- like a couple each week. (A possible format is : As soon as two people can agree on a time and place for the two selection of the following week, it gets open to anyone to join in. There are many irresistible short stories out there and many of us can steal an hour to meet in a coffeeshop or a park or someone's home. And if you can't, maybe you ought to... )

-- I have someone interested in starting a science fiction subgroup, and maybe another interested in a subgroup on food. I've personally lead close to 50 poetry circles over the past 12 years. So when the time is right, we can read poetry together. And maybe some of us would like to discuss every new issue of The Sun magazine or some other periodical... Eventually I would like to see a non-fiction section.

I know this all seems so much, so ambitious. The humble truth is that I'm getting better and better at making the (seemingly) impossible, well, possible. Or at being fearless :)) And, of course, part of the secret is teamwork and feeling part of a caring community. But after the motto of IS to build community. And OUR way is to do it through ...books! Right?

Anyway, do get involved -- and more involved -- if/when you are ready. Share your gifts and your interests. I'll be your conductor for a while, so to speak. And then we'll pause and look at our options. Look at our glow -- and then look at our options.

All good? All fair?
Please remember that I'm not mind/heart reader. Written words and maybe lips, that I can. LOL! Please trust that I will welcome and will respect your feedback and initiatives. Talk to me, write to me.

Enough (probably too much) for now. Thank you for reading me.
