I want to visit Last Chance Falls in the Arroyo Seco area while there are still plenty of wildflowers and a decent amount of water in the falls.
I plan on driving down Saturday morning from Millbrae Bart.
I can take up to three people with bikes and camping gear.
From the the Arroyo Seco Trailhead it's an easy packed dirt ride.
Only a 400ft. climb to Camp Cawatre where I plan to spend Sat. night. Any touring/road bike will work.
At Camp Cawatre is the original Arroyo Seco Adobe Ranger station, circa 1908.
No charge for camping there and plenty of year round water.
Saturday we'll hike to the falls from our camp. 8~10 miles round trip.
The bike ride is easy. The hike is a intermediate in distance with some scrambling at times. For the most part the trail is easy to follow and is next to a stream.
If people want to do an easier hike they can head along the Arroyo Seco River which has numerous swimming holes.
Last Chance Falls is a worthwhile goal,as it is the tallest single drop waterfall in Ventana Wilderness.
There is a large cave behind the falls that you can climb into and then stand directly under the water!
I plan on driving back Sunday morning, but others can stay a second night to explore the area further.
It's a 2 1/2 hr. drive from Millbrae Bart.
