Tiger Mountain- Find the Christmas Tree - Conditioning Hike

Apparently there is a tree somewhere along the trail that people decorate. Let's see if we can find it. Bring along an eco friendly decoration to hang if we do. This will be a conditioning hike so expect the pace to be a little quicker, because Kristen has to get home for the SeaHawks game.

I stole this off of another meet up site:

Way out on the Bootleg Trail on the Southeast side of Tiger Mountain 1, there is an evergreen tree people have been decorating with Christmas ornaments for years. I have hung a few ornaments here myself. So this year, join my tradition and hang an ornament on the tree. Unless the weather is foul, we will make this a Tiger 1 loop hike. We will start out on the Wilderness Loop trail and onto Dwight’s Way. Both these trails are very scenic. Dwight’s Way then turns into the Bootleg Trail.

After a break at the Christmas Tree, we will head up to the Top of Tiger 1, then back down Tiger Mountain Trail (TMT) to the parking lot. This loop is probably a little over 8 miles and a 2,500 foot gain.

Weather and trail conditions will determine if we complete this. Please come prepared for the weather with proper clothing, foot wear, and traction devices. Check meet up site day of event for any cancellations or changes due to weather, road conditions, illness etc.

I am limiting attendance to this hike as I am cross posting on my other meet up site. Put yourself on the wait list if it fills here and I will bump you in if my other site is not full.

We found the tree. We slogged through mud and snow, across running creeks, over downed logs and tree branches, in the rain and the snow. But we found the tree. A nice hot shower never felt so good. I really did enjoy the hike, too. Cleared my head of all the fog that accumulates during the work week and I am thinking clear again, until next time.

This may sound dumb but 2 questions: anyone want to carpool? Also....should I bring snowshoes?

Shouldn't need snowshoes, but traction devices like yak trax might come on handy. Where are you coming from for carpool and do you have a dog?

This is the route I received from the original poster on the other meet up site. So we can try this and try to find the tree:

Starting at 79th Street off the High Point Exit by the steel gate, I plan to take the Lingering trail to Dwight's Way, to the Bootleg trail starting at the lower then middle Bootleg trail. At the end of the middle trail at the at the Paw Print Conn, turn right not the upper Bootleg trail. The tree is just a hundred yards or so up the upper Bootleg trail from the Paw Print junction.
If it's not too nasty of a day, I plan to hike up to Tiger 1 then down the
TMT trail back to the cars. Great loop.

So we should be able to find it.

    **Directions**

We will meet right off Highpoint Exit (#20 off I-90). If you are going I-90 Eastbound, turn right at the bottom of the exit (Westbound on I-90 turn Left). The meeting point is just 150 feet from I-90. It’s at the corner of SE 79 Street and 270 Ave SW. There is a ‘No Shooting’ sign posted on the street sign and a big yellow gate to the left. So leave your pistols at home and join my Christmas Tree hike.
