Controversial Film Hyde Park on Hudson (FREE) and optional post film discussion

Come out and enjoy a free movie at the West Vancouver Main Library as part of their Movie Nights at the Library.  http://www.westvanlibrary.ca/event/calendar.php?month=JUL

We will be watching Hyde Park on Hudson. This movie has sparked a lot of controversy.

Huffington Post's movie reviewer's two cents opinion: "After viewing the film, it is obvious to me that making money was its sole objective."

"If it had been a big box-office success it would reveal what an appetite we have for sex -- and what disregard we have for historical accuracy. Historical novels, plays and cinema are my favorites. But there has to be some reasonable engagement with real history behind them. This film has none."

The movie begins at 6:30 pm and will shown in Welsh Hall.

UPDATE:  Let's meetup in the "waiting area" in the lower floor, by the indoor mini-waterfall.  Look for the Meetup sign on a table.

After the movie, if anybody's interested, let's grab a coffee discuss both the movie  and its historical value, using sex to sell movies and whether this is an appropriate choice for a public library to show.

(Rob's view:  I question whether the public libary has taken up its own agenda that is contrary to good social policy in the series of Monday Night movies.  I don't like what I'm seeing.)

Movie review: This movie is made to look like a historical (non-fiction), especially at the end. If the Huffington Post review is correct, this movie is a historical fraud.

I'm still in throes of unpacking after moving into my new home, but I have seen several NSSC events/activities that have appeal and plan to attend once I have surfaced from under all the boxes!

So are you going the movie first and then the discussion after? I can no longer edit as I have stepped down as coordinator.

Yes. I thought that's clear from the title and description. If not, please use the comment(s).

I am a bit confused as to this event. Are you actually hosting this movie night? The review you have included is not favourable so is not likely to encourage members to attend. Also this is a social club not a political forum. If you wish to have a discussion after the movie that may be well received from those attending.

Good point, Lisa. I'll re-package this meetup, incorporating all of your suggestions.
