Day Trip: Timeless Treasures of Norwich

Details

Hello all,
Once I became a couch surfing host, I started looking at my neighborhood and community at large, for interesting sites and information that had helped me become a better host. What I found was a rich tapestry of historical significance, engaging stories I had never heard about, and some fun facts about Connecticut. As a group we've done, Hartford, Essex, New London, East Hampton/Chester, Mystic and other communities outside of the state. I'd love to show you the Historic Norwich that most people have never seen.

### Historic Norwich, CT Itinerary

Explore the rich history of Norwich, CT, with this one-day itinerary that takes you through some of the city's most significant historic sites.
Morning:

  • Leffingwell House Museum: Begin your day at the Leffingwell House Museum, one of the finest restored examples of New England colonial architecture. The museum offers insights into the daily lives of Norwich's earliest settlers. Admission is $8 for adults, and children 5 and under are free 1. Please arrive at 10:50am.

Midday:

  • Slater Memorial Museum: Next, we will head to the Slater Memorial Museum, located on the grounds of the Norwich Free Academy. This museum features a remarkable collection of plaster casts of great works of Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Renaissance sculpture, as well as high-quality permanent exhibitions of 20th-century American art, Asian art, African art, and European decorative arts. Admission is $10 for adults, and children 11 and under are free 2.

Lunch:
Canggio serves authentic Peruvian food. I've eaten there a few times and it's always been good. Here is the link to the restaurant if you want to check out the menu.

Afternoon:

  • Norwichtown Historic Cemetery: After lunch, take a ride over to and do a leisurely stroll through the Norwichtown Historic Cemetery. This ancient cemetery is the resting place of many of Norwich's founding families, and the gravestones tell fascinating stories of the city's early days. Admission is free.

**NOTE: If you are a library card holder, check in with your library and see if they have further reduced or even free admission to these attractions.

**NOTE: I know we have a lot of hot humid days in July but most of this day will be in airconditioned buildings and we'll be using cars to move from place to place.

If you have any questions or you want to set up a carpool, please use the event chat to communicate that. If you participate in a carpool, please plan to help out with gas money.

If you have more questions that you don't want to include on the group chat, please send me an email at LFTRTravel@gmail.com with a subject line of 'Norwich Day' Included.

Thank you,
Margaret
