Exciting New Class...
Students will be learning both Yin Yang Tai Chi as well as the Tai Chi Wand/Stick.
Yin Yang Tai Chi
All of the taijiquan skills originate from variations and combinations of the Taiji Thirteen Postures. This is the essence of taijiquan. Learn this form and you will have an exceptional foundation of taijiquan skills.
In Yin-Yang Taiji form every movement is done on both left and right side for balance. Each movement has its yin and yang, soft and hard counterparts. The movements embody both explicit and hidden power as well as soft and explosive power. It is a diverse form that includes some of the typical movements from Yang, Chen, Sun and Wu Styles of Taijiquan.
Student Level: Newbie to Advanced. Offered at Highlands as part of the curriculum on Wednesdays, 5:15pm-6:45pm. This time frame includes learning Taiji Yang Sheng Zhang + Jian Gan. Newbies will get a course in the basics of tai chi. If you are new to tai chi, this class will definitely work for you.
Taiji Yang Sheng Zhang + Jian Gan = The Dowelists – An Ancient Qigong Form using a special “Wand”
Once you graduate from this set of classes you can officially call yourself a Dowelist!
The Chinese Stick and the Gan are two health wands (specially sized and designed dowels) used in two different ancient exercise systems (forms) that are a simple, yet powerful programs designed to coordiate diaphramatic breathing in conjunction with stretching and strengthening exercises that help increase circulation and stimulate the cardiovascular system.
Students in this NEW, unique class will learn at least 25 exercises that will coordinate the mind, body, and spirit, improve muscle tone, increase weight loss and fitness potential. This set of exercises is also a great warm-up for a wide range of other fitness regimes. Both health wand forms are systems capable of deliverying the body shaping and conditioning effects associated with more physically robust exercises found in a gym. It is fun and challenges all fitness levels. You’ll enjoy the brain exercise it provides!
Students in this class will learn an 8 movement form plus a set of 17 additional exercises. Each student will also gain a better understanding of yin and yang, the 5 elements, qi balance and the pyramid of energy.
This class is for ALL abilities. All exercises are safe not only for beginners but also advanced practitioners. They have all been scientifically researched, are logical in sequence, and comprehensive in range and effect. The health benefits are as wide-ranging as those found by practitioners of Yoga, Qigong or Taiji. They are tried and tested.
In this class you will need to purchase two wands, each a different length and specific to each set of exercises. They are required. During the first class you will be sized-up for your wands and they will be customized and provided to you in a subsequent class.
