Update your RSVP for Meetup: Crater Lake Camping 5-Day+ Weekend

Announcing a new Meetup for Eastside Hikers Meetup Group!

What: Crater Lake Camping 5-Day+ Weekend

When: Tuesday, August 10,[masked]:00 AM

Where:
Crater Lake National Park
Mazama Campground
Crater Lake, OR 97604
[masked]

We will meet you there or along the way...Trip dates are from August 10-15...come for part or all...we will be at Crater Lake from Aug 11-14 as our main dates.

Since this is a 9 hour drive, I am suggesting folks ask for enough time off to spend 2 9 hour days driving there and back and 3 full days relaxing at the campsite...I will likely be arriving earlier in the week and taking the whole week off Mon-Fri to acclimatize to the high elevation....7000+ feet...so plan to be winded the first day and take in a lot of extra water.

Crater Lake is on my list of places to go and check out...I love camping and have not been there before...we plan to drive down to Eugene Monday or Tuesday and then over to Crater Lake Wednesday or Thursday and set up camp and would love to have a few hiking pals meet us there for some hiking and exploring and photographing the beauty of the area.

We should get 3 sunsets, 3 moonrises, and hopefully 3 sunrises if we get up in time...set your alarms...I hear that the stars and the moon are amazing over the lake at night, so I want to see that!

NO ipods or cell phones allowed outside of your cars on this one...I doubt that cell phones will work up there at all...so if you need to communicate it will either be text if it works at all or posting a note at the camp board. Otherwise All nature ALL of the time!!

We will have the whole day to explore and hike around the area looking for things to photograph.

On Saturday August 14th there is a Crater Lake Rim Run series and I will be running the 10K in that...so it's best to get our campsites a few days before the race day or they might fill up...so that is why I am arriving a few days early and also to acclimatize to the elevation before the run.

This is at high elevation, so be prepared to drink extra water to hydrate and don't plan on too many activities the first day as you will be taxed by the thin air at 7000 feet.

Email me with any ideas you have or if you have been there before and can help with logistics.
