New Meetup: Mt Defiance - Let's Try This Again

Announcing a new Meetup for Eastside Hikers Meetup Group!

What: Mt Defiance - Let's Try This Again

When: Thursday, August 26,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Preston Park & Ride
I-90 Exit 22
Preston, WA 98050

Got Thursday off? If so, lets hike up to the top of Mt Defiance. I tried to do this hike last week but the road was blocked by logging. If it is blocked again we will use the slightly longer trail from Talapus Lake.

We take the Ira Spring Trail up through trees and steep flower meadows to Mason Lake, and continue up the ridge to even higher meadows, and finish on a good steep path the last few hundred feet to the top. Great view of all the surrounding peaks and several lakes far below. We may take a dip in Mason Lake on the way back.

If it is hot, I may elect to approach/return via the abandoned Mason Creek Trail which I hear is now in good shape, steeper though, with some rough sections. In the good old days I could get to the lake in 45 minutes using this cool dark shaded trail. Stash a can of soda/juice in the stream part-way up and enjoy it ice cold on the return.

Stats: 9 miles RT with 3,500' elevation gain. As always, I've done this many times - maybe too many times. No babies or dogs! Bring plenty of water, good boots, and a trekking pole makes the descent easier on those old knees.

Meet 8am at the Preston Park & Ride on I-90 at Exit 22.

Any questions, call me at[masked]-1035.
