Book Club
Enjoy reading? Want to share your thoughts about books or just listen to other people’s opinions? Then why not join us. Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at Lee Rosy’s Tea café. This month's book is The Forever War by Joe Haldeman: 'Private William Mandella is a reluctant hero in an interstellar war against an unknowable and unconquerable alien enemy. But his greatest test will be when he returns home. Relativity means that for every few months' tour of duty centuries have passed on Earth, isolating the combatants ever more from the world for whose future they are fighting.' Looking forward, the books for April to August are: April: All Quiet on the Western Front - Erich Maria Remarque May: The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde June: Mrs Dalloway - Virginia Woolf July: The Unit - Ninni Holmqvist August: Grief is the Thing with Feathers - Max Porter

What we're about

Public Group

This Meetup group aims to explore some of the cultural aspects of life, and get people sharing experiences and getting thinking! We are a relaxed and friendly bunch, and we welcome new members to any of our events!

We host:

Monthly book group, held on the third Wednesday of each month.
Monthly film group, a trip to The Broadway cinema held on the first Wednesday of each month.
Nottingham Classics concerts.
Book swaps, where you can trade your old books with other group members.
Nottingham Café Scientifique and Culturel where, for the price of a coffee or glass of wine, you can come to explore the latest ideas in science and culture. Cafe Sci meets on Monday nights during term time. You can read more about Nottingham's Café Sci here (

We also hold other events or lectures that may be of interest, so why not look at our calendar ( and see if anything sparks your interest!

As much as possible we try and co-ordinate our events with those on the Nottingham Social Activities Group ( with whom we share many members; so why not join both and have a packed social calendar!
