Sydney Documentary Film Group - First Meeting

Edward, a former Organizer of the Humanists Meetup has now branched out to build an exciting new Meetup for those who enjoy quality documentaries.

The Sydney Documentary Film Group is having its first meeting on the 21st February and Edward is inviting NSW Humanists Meetup members to join.

The inaugural meeting will be screening the documentary SLUT: A journey to get a word banned. This film was made in 2004 by two canadian women, Rina Barrone and Patricia DiTillio.

It looks at the cultural history of the word, why it has had been used in the ways it has been and the impact the word has had on those targeted by it. Can the word be reclaimed and used in a positive sense ? The film is also situated in the context of a U.S. conservative congressmen wanting to get 7 words banned from publication but slut was not one of them.

I really enjoyed this meeup.Interesting, and unique film
followed by a very thoughtful, engaging & intimate discussion
on what it means to be a Slut in todays society. The effects on women
of different cultues, ages & lifestyles. Is there such a concept as the male
SLUT and the ramofications.I am really looking forward to the next
    Doco meetup.
