Hi ny-scala friends, good to see some of you last night!
I'm sharing a job posting because, actually, this is the first time I can do that according to our own mailing list policy.
Meetup is looking for an API Engineer in Scala.
This terribly exciting for me because I've been working at Meetup for 4 and a half years now and have been a part of ny-scala since Dustin founded it 5 years ago. (wow.)
Meetup's first Scala source file was apparently committed Tue Nov 23 19:20:42 2010. That was the beginning of a streaming API server that Doug Tangren and I built on Unfiltered. After that we wrote an internal social recommendations service in Scala, also using Unfiltered. Nearly all of our recommendation/personalization systems are implemented in Scala now, the "big" side of things using Spark.
So we've got a growing Scala codebase and in-house Scala talent (including Erik Osheim and Josh Marcus) but Meetup has never actually required Scala experience for a position, until this one.
Since all new API methods are built in Unfiltered we need someone who can start contributing right away, working with Doug (Unfiltered co-founder, btw). If you're interested, apply through the site or contact one of us directly.
