Re: [newtech-1] Reinvent the Payphone Challenge Meetup

I believe you do have good idea going on there.

I will not participate as I do not have any of the qualifications needed, but If I may add:

- In case of power failure - I would suggested a hand crank as back  power source

- 2 way radio if Internet is down
-Radio announcement that can be turned on as a repeat station
- 360 degrees Cameras to help  with surveillance.

Mix of high tech and low tech to suit different emergency scenarios

If you are interested in answering Mayor Bloomberg's and Rachel Haot's challenge to reimagine the payphone, I have setup a meetup and first meeting next Wednesday.

All are welcome to join in an organized effort that hopefully could be presented to other cities if adopted by NY.

My own vision is to use them as ambient lighting, to convey emergency messages and information in a crisis, to have them as multi-purpose communication stations, to make them Internet enabled and perhaps even WiFi spots. There are many relatively straightforward ideas.

We need a solid team to realize a sound vision, so please recruit:

- sound engineers
- makers
- artistic renders
- electricians
- spec writers
- web site design for our virtual presentation
- lawyers (for IP rights)

Please RSVP to the first meetup this upcoming week. I look forward to meeting you there!
