Hi Ben -- without disclosing proprietary details about your invention, can you generally define"

- The space your are inventing in
- What hourly rate is your patent counsel contact charging
- Is s/he a boutique or large firm
- What is your objective in seeking IP protection
- Do you have a white paper or other description of your invention in writing

Hi everybody. My team and I are looking to patent an invention, but based on the conversations we've had with lawyers, the price tag is significant -- i.e. in the range of $15,000 to $20,000. Does anyone know of a way to cut some cost out of the process?

Are there competent lawyers that do this kind of work for less money or (if we handle the bulk of the writing ourselves) provide a cursory review at a substantial discount? Are there government grants / programs for inventors or start-ups that we can leverage? Is it feasible for us to write and submit the patent application without outside help?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks, and have a great week.

Ben
