Hey Robert,

To clarify that, I have a friend who works as a professor there (he teachers computer science, I think coding in particular, a guy named Jerry) and I talked to him about getting in, and he said my chances are very good seeing how I did on my first few college courses (AP courses I took) + the extracurricular activities that I have done.

The only thing I need to do now though, is get my GPA up to 3.6 or higher, and I'll be sure to be accepted is what I was told. Because I have participated in a lot of different things.

So to answer that, I'm not completely accepted, but it's a possibility. Which is why I said, I don't know whether or not to try to go there, or not, or if I can even make the grades. Other than that, I think I should be alright... That's why I asked.

Really, the whole argument arose because of my mom. I will say again, her delusions that MIT is the best and every other college blows, is what I was trying to demystify for myself. That's why I asked on here. Then I brought up other problems, like me not wanting to leave NY BEFORE I finished my education (4 years) and maybe for a 6 year degree I'd move out. I'm really, really, not trying to make things hard or confusing. But I guess the manner that I type in, it happens to cause a conflict.

Anyways, MIT, NYIT, and all the other colleges (i have to look through the emails that people mentioned, to see what colleges they listed to look at) are just possibilities for the future. And I have looked on all the websites, but I needed something from someone who went there. I have no clue how to contact an alumni from there.

Richard,

OK wait a sec? have you already been accepted by MIT?  If you haven?t, the question you?re asking is beside the point.

I suspect that many people here, at first, assumed from your question, that you had already been accepted by MIT. I certainly did. I now suspect that you have not.  In which case, this entire thread was a waste of time.

And just a wake-up call, getting into MIT is as hard as getting into Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc.  If not harder.  Note that I do not question if you got into NYIT, anyone with brain could probably go there (which says little about the quality of NYIT?s teaching, of course).

If I?m wrong and you have been accepted by MIT, many congratulations!  And if so, don?t be an idiot -- go.

Cheers,
Rob

Carlos, I'd be interested in that article. Do you know where I can find it? I understand MIT is good, and better because of what it offers in comparison to other schools, but I haven't gotten many reasons as to why someone would want to go to a lower tiered school instead of a prestigious school like MIT. Which is better in almost every way according to everyone on here. So far, only one person has said something about not going to a better business school. I really don't see why you wouldn't want to go to a better school if you can afford it, and have the grades to get in. I'd like people's opinions as to why they chose not to go (other than as i said, being able to afford it and have the grades).
