This opportunity to learn about the life of bees is fantastic. The honeybee is so important to our food system that whether we keep hives or eat honey or not, we must learn how to promote the welfare of bees. Thank you Jim, Liane and John!

This is turning out to be the perfect, informal but in-depth forum to explore the practicalities about keeping bees in NYC - either at home or a garden, etc. Good, open atmosphere created by friendly, knowledgeable group leaders and the attendees represent a wide range of experience in environmental activities around the City. Get your questions answered, while having a good time.

Clearly, this is a supportive and dedicated community with a desire to help individuals interested in bee keeping to become responsible bee keepers. With the change in the law, interest and potential problems have already started to increase. To keep the endeavor from attracting a bad name and developing practices that are not good for either bees or bee keeping, mentoring by more experienced practitioners will be essential.

It's an excellent group. Hands on experience and lots of one on one interaction with the beekeeper, John, has made this a very fun and educational experience. John's a great guy and the other members are fun and knowledgeable. One bit of advice though, never pull frames laden with beautiful golden honey when you're hungry. All sorts of trouble may ensue!
