What Geoffrey S. N. is saying about this Meetup Group

I'd use the F Bomb here to describe this loathsome motiveless malignancy known as the F# ... just kidding. Eleven years of attending such type of meetings has left me with one observation. The lack of interaction between participants astounds me. Where is the Yankee sense of the participatory? They really fail on a human level. For instance, I am a member of another group one of whose members is Esther Dyson and at those meetings CEOs of start-ups, est. companies, VC funders, world class medical practitioners, Harvard MBAs, your odd malingerer (me) mingle, share ideas and try to create some synergies in a collegial way. I have witnessed almost none of this. Why? It might be an issue of ethnicity, immigrant insecurity looped in with job angst... I just don't know. Granted the rap on programmers is that they have the personality brio of those in a leper colony. Even if true, that's no excuse - Lab 49 hosted a few MeetUps that really jump started the human intermingling. (beer helped!)
