Venmo / Cover / NYC Bike Buddy / SpotHero

  • Oct 16, 2013 · 7:00 PM

We're excited to have Venmo, one of NY's latest mobile success stories, host our October NYC Apps event. Venmo presented at NYC Apps about a year ago and, boy, what a year it's been.

Overview:

7:00 pm – Drinks, Pizza, and networking.

7:30 pm – Discussion on the latest in the mobile landscape.

7:45 pm – Presentations: Get a behind-the-scenes look at the process of building, designing, and executing an app from NY's best. Less demos, more lessons learned.

9:00 pm – Drinks and networking at a nearby pub.

Our Startups:

Chris Maddern, Senior Mobile Engineer, Venmo

Venmo is a service that makes it easy, safe, and fun to pay your friends.

Venmo’s iPhone and Android apps allow you to make and share payments with friends.

Paying with your debit card or bank account is free, and you can transfer money from your Venmo account balance to your bank account over night. (via Crunchbase.)

Mark Egerman, Co-founder, Cover

Mobile payment app Cover launched in New York City earlier this month, enabling users to check-in at restaurants, and when it's time for the check, Cover automatically pays the bill with your credit card. It's the Uber payment experience for restaurants. With Lerer Ventures, Naval Ravikant and O'Reilly participating in their seed round, Cover is poised for big things.

Mark is the Co-founder of Cover. He is an expert in mobile payments and the intersection of innovation, regulation, and payment systems.

Brian PapaFounder & DeveloperNYC Bike Buddy

Brian, an iOS developer who has been working on apps since 2008, is the founder of bpm apps and creator of NYC Bike Buddy. The ultimate companion app for all riders in New York City, NYC Bike Buddy displays nearby points of interest such as water fountains and bike share stations, offers bike friendly directions, and provides a simple ride tracking feature. NYC Bike Buddy is available in the App Store now.

Jeremy Smith, Co-founderSpotHero

Jeremy graduated from the University of Illinois in 2008. Out of school he worked at Motorola and he eventually ended up becoming roommates with his now Co-Founder Mark Lawrence. During only a year of living in the City of Chicago, he amassed $3500 in parking tickets! That's when SpotHero was born and he still gets tickets! When he''s not out being a SpotHero for Chicago residents, Jeremy loves catching sporting events with friends, checking out new places around the city, and frequenting local dive restaurants.
