Sorry for the late notice, but please join us at Dempsey's on this night for our First Tuesday celebration at our flagship event. We'll mark the start of the St. Patrick's Day season and, hopefully, the beginning of the end of Old Man Winter.
The Dempsey's session is the longest-running open traditional Irish session in New York, now in its 15th year of Tuesday night tunes and craic. All are welcome, from beginners to intermediate to advanced session musicians and the session is a good mix of all three. Sean nos and ballad singers and folk musicians are welcome as well as the session uses a round-robin format where everyone gets a turn to start a tune or sing a song.
The welcoming, open spirit of Dempsey's is known in Irish music circles all over the world and it's not unusual at all for visiting musicians (or singers, or dancers) from the four corners of the earth to stop by for a tune on any given Tuesday night. In 2011, local indie filmmaker Paradox Smoke Productions even made a documentary about the Dempsey's session called "Beautiful People."
For musicians, the session provides a friendly, supportive atmosphere to share your talents and develop your skills. For non-musicians, the session creates an atmosphere of Irish conviviality and craic that few local pubs can match.
We'll meet starting around 7 in the bar area for drinks, food and conversation. The music starts at 8. All musicians are welcome to bring their instruments and join in. See you there.
