Amy Goodman, host and executive producer of Democracy Now!, moderates a discussion about food sustainability between Frederick Kaufman, journalist and author most recently of Bet the Farm: How Food Stopped Being Food, and Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director of Cathedral partner Food & Water Watch and author of the newly released Foodopoly: the Battle over the Future of Food and Farming in America.
Food is a commodity, a cultural symbol, a vital element of life and a source of inspiration and innovation for scientists, chefs, farmers and the rest of us. Food is also one of the most controversial subjects in contemporary American society.
Following in the path laid by the September 2011-March 2012 exhibition, The Value of Water: Sustaining a Green Planet, the Cathedral is preparing to explore the cultural, social, spiritual, and creative aspects of this life-sustaining sustenance in all its variety, through an integrated series of discussions, art installations, and community outreach.
This free discussion on May 23 will spark debate about this most integral and fundamental building block of life.
