Announcing a new Meetup for The Metro NYC Environmental Meetup!

What: Free guided canoe tour of marshes and estuaries in Jamaica Bay

When: July 11,[masked]:15 AM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Rockaway Water Alliance is hosting their 2nd Annual Blue Canoe Day! This year?s event will be led by a guide from the Audubon Society and kayakers from Sebago Canoe Club, Rockaway Bike & Paddle and Long Island City Boathouse.

We will kayak and canoe from Norton Basin, Jamaica Bay over to Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary to explore the marshes and estuaries in the heart of the Rockaway Peninsula. No experience necessary and certified folks will give us an overview before we head out.

10:15am Meetup
10:30am Register and assemble equipment
11:00am head out on kayak, full circuit will take us about 2-2.5 hours so will likely finish up around 1:30pm. We will stop halfway and have lunch.

Registration to reserve a kayak is free and first come first serve.

Come prepared:
Bring a light lunch, wear shoes and clothes that can get wet, sunscreen and eco-friendly bug repellent (Health Food Stores, Burts Bees is a good option and at drug stores like Duane Reade and Vegan).

I reserved a bunch of spots for our group. Let's aim to meet by 10:15am at the event launch site. Please only RSVP if you will definitely be attending.

Michaelis Bayswater Park- Bay 35th Street & Jamaica Bay, Far Rockaway.
Free Parking available at site.
Accessible by A train subway (Far Rockaway/JFK only), Walk 1 block from Beach 36th Street Station.
Trip Planner to the Park: Click Here

Paddlers are encouraged to bring their own kayaks if they can. Parking is available on Beach 35th Street.

Please indicated in your RSVP if you will be bringing your own kayak or canoe
or if you will be driving, from where and how many people you have room for if you'd like to car pool.

Attendance Policy:

If you are a No-Show we will be keeping track and after three No-Shows (three times you RSVP yes and then do not attend a Meetup) you will no longer be able to RSVP Yes to attend limited space events until you have three perfect attendances for open events or when you've signed up as a maybe and then showed up. You will be warned after 3 times and after 4 times you will be removed from the group. We understand-life happens, all we ask is you take a moment to change your RSVP or contact the organizer to let them know you can't attend.
