Come join us for some social
gaming and conversation with your fellow gamers! We'll play whatever the group is looking to play and that is available, depending on requests and interest before the meetup. If you're interested in playing a particular game once we post the system, bring it along or ask if anyone can bring it when you RSVP!

Set up is around 730pm or so, so that's a great time to get a drink, grab some food, and mingle with your fellow gamers!

If you're into portable handheld gaming, feel free to bring your 3DS, Vita or whatever you have to play with others on those really busy nights!

In order to cover meetup fees and the cost of batteries and other materials, we ask for just a small donation each meetup.  As little as $1 is greatly appreciated towards helping run this group!

FYI, we're located in the basement lounge of the Creek and Cave bar & restaurant, so come on in through the restaurant and head down the stairs.  We'll be to the left! As the Creek is both a bar and restaurant you do NOT need to be 21+ to attend this event.

I can bring two controllers for Dreamcast. I also can maaaaaybe bring a Dreamcast itself, but I would want to know if we have a good working one elsewhere first, before I haul my own out. In terms of games, I have Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Daytona, Tony Hawk 1, and Powerstone. I'll have to dig through them to see if I have other multiplayer games worth bringing.

As for SNES, I will for sure bring:

    Turtles in Time
    Sunset Riders
    Mario Kart
    Mario World/All Stars
    Gradius III
    Street Fighter 2 Turbo

And I may have other good ones as well, I'll have to check. If anyone has possible requests, let me know. No guarantees I have it, but I do have around 30 SNES games just sitting in a box.

    • Joel A.

We'll likely start with one and then switch to the other midway through the night, depending on what gets requested.

      January 31, 2014

    • Jeremy

Okay, adding to my list of games, I also have King's Knight for SNES, and for Dreamcast I have Soul Calubur, Sonic Adventure 2, Super Smash Pack (contains Streets of Rage 2, Golden Axe, and other such Genesis games) and Rippin Riders.

    ALSO, FYI:

This is the first time we've actually filled up on RSVPs, so I want to clarify something for all:

Just because we're filled on those does NOT mean there's no more room for people. Yes, we do have a specific limit considering the Creek can only fit so many, but several RSVPs are automatic - as in Meetup.com RSVP'd these people, but they may not necessarily be coming. So if you'd like to come to the Meetup and you see the RSVPs are full, show up anyway! There's likely to be room for you, and if there isn't, we'll figure out a way to get you in on the fun.

Hey folks! I know, it's kind of snowing and gross and blech out there, but that's not stopping us! We are NOT cancelling on account of the snow - you guys really seem to want this Retro Night, so who are we to refuse that kind of demand?!

(Thanks to you two, Kimberly and Dave; I had been meaning to mention this but it slipped my mind until you posed your questions!)

Gonna try to make it to this, but I probably won't be able to get there till 9 because of class. I hope to start coming more regularly again, though.

If nobody brings mortal kombat well then I just dont see the point of a Retro Night

    January 27, 2014

  • Jeremy

What games do we need for either console? I have a bunch for both, including over 30 SNES carts (offhand, I know I have Turtles in Time, Sunset Riders, Gradius 3, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong 3, Mario World/All Stars among other multiplayer games). Or will this be on emulation anyway?

    January 27, 2014

    • Joel A.

We're still working out the games list, but by all means feel free to bring your own games!

      January 27, 2014

    • Jeremy

Oh, I should mention I have Street Fighter II Turbo as well. A perennial favorite.

Anyone interested in doing some 4 player Boarderlands 1 or 2? I would be willing to bring my ps3 along with the two games, game of the year editions. Does the spot have two viewing monitors? Each system could only do 2 player co-op. Does the spot have internet so two systems could link together to do the four player?

    January 23, 2014

    • Joel A.

The Creek does have WiFi, but the only screen we have access to is the projector screen, so unless someone brought a TV with them, we can't really do system linked games.

Do I understand right? The hosting spot has one projector TV and any other games are handheld to handheld like 3ds or vita? Have you considered doing board and or card games while people wait for the projector turn?

    January 23, 2014

    • Joel A.

Yes, the Creek only has a projector that we hook the system up to. Since we're usually rotating people out fairly quickly with games, handhelds are just easier for people to keep themselves busy with since it's much easier to pause/put them on hold when it's their turn.
