Let Germany Come to You: German for Hire!

Dear Fellow Members of the German Meetup Group,

The Goethe-Institut New York is currently expanding its project German for Hire to the Tri-State area, and we would like to ask you to help us find suitable candidates.

German for Hire invites native German students at colleges and universities here in the US to become “intercultural ambassadors.” Students visit middle and high schools and talk to students about their lives, hobbies and culture in Germany in order to enhance intercultural understanding, providing American students with a more authentic and modern side of Germany and Europe.

While students and teachers appreciate the opportunity to meet a “real” German for whom Germany is more than beer, bratwurst and Oktoberfest, the students who serve as ambassadors gain a unique insight into a part of American life to which they usually do not have easy access. Our German for Hire ambassadors not only learn about American schools, but they are presented with a wonderful educational opportunity to both hone their communicative skills and enhance their intercultural understanding.

In order for German for Hire to take foot here in the New York area, we would like to ask you to help us identify suitable students from Germany who study at your institution. Would it be possible for you to distribute this letter and our invitation to participate (see attachment) to anyone who might be interested in this project – professors, students or administrators?

If you would like to be a “Cultural Ambassador” or you represent a school in need of a German native, please register at:

In early December 2011, the Goethe-Institut is going to invite participating students to a workshop on multicultural communication. An official welcoming ceremony will follow the workshop.

Thank you very much for your help! Please do not hesitate to contact us in case you would like to find out more about this initiative or our other programs.
