Hello karting racers! Immediately following our lapping day, we will have a team endurance race on the same track. Depending on the total number of drivers, there will be 2-4 drivers per team racing for 2-4 hours with driver changes every 15 minutes (each driver getting one hour of track time). Clean driving, teamwork and consistency will be the keys to winning. Although the race starts at 5:00pm, you need to be at the track an hour earlier to register, create teams and practice. As usual, you would drive the 9hp endurance karts capable of 45mph. The price is $180/driver which includes entry fee and use of safety gear (may bring your own). • 12 Hr. GoPro Team Endurance Race, Mooresville, NC
The GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, NC will be having their first 12 Hour team endurance race this Spring. This is a track worth making the trip. Team cost for the race is $1,750 by August 15, 2017, $1,950 by August 31, 2017, and $2,350 after that. A 60 minute practice will be followed by a 5 minute qualifying will be on Friday. Additional practice sessions will be available earlier in the day on Friday. There are a number of classes within the race for a variety of skill levels and the karts are very equally prepared making for good racing. Three classes: • Pro-Am Light: 175 lbs min per driver inclusive of ballast if needed • Pro-Am Heavy: 200 lbs min per driver inclusive of ballast if needed • Novice: 210+ Average team weight Timeline: Friday Timeline: Registration opens: 9:00 a.m. Paid practice: 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Sessions will be $25 and 15 minutes in length) Drivers Meeting: 4:30 p.m. Team practice: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Qualifying: 6:15 p.m. (5 minutes with designated driver) Official Drivers Meeting: 6:30 p.m. Saturday Timeline: Facility opens for setup: 6:00 a.m. Final Drivers meeting: 7:00 a.m. Start of race: 7:30 a.m. Team Entry Fee: $1,750 by August 15, 1950 by August 31, and $2,350 after that. Registration: Registration will be available on MotorsportReg.com. We strongly encourage pre-registration due to a limited number of team entries available. FORMAT: Drivers Meeting: All team captains must be present at the Official drivers meeting. If the team captain isn’t present, that team will start in the rear. Friday Team Practice: This session will be timed, but no times will count towards qualifying. Your team will practice with the same kart for the entire hour. Friday Qualifying: This session will be 5 minutes long and only one driver per team will participate in qualifying. All qualifying drivers must weigh at scales when they get out of the kart. If driver is underweight all lap times are disallowed for that team and they will start in the rear. The Start: It will be a "Le Mans" style start where the starting driver runs across the track at the wave of the Green flag. One team member may help with the seat belt, but cannot push the kart or run on to the track (standing on the edge of the pavement to assist with the seatbelt is ok). If either of those infractions take place for a team, the penalty is a stop-and-go through pit lane. Kart swaps (driver changes): Each team has to complete 15 ‘kart swaps’. (No kart swaps allowed when answering to a black flag stop-and-go penalty). The new driver will pick a letter that designates the ‘stall’ that holds their new kart. Once you pick the stall, you must wait in the designated new driver staging area. The same driver cannot perform the kart swap, in other words no double stints. All drivers must weigh in after they get out of a kart. If you are under your class minimum weight, your team will lose 1 lap for every 10lbs you are underweight. If you do not weigh in, you will lose 5 laps and not get credit for a kart swap. All stops must be completed before 10 minutes of the end of race. A stop will be considered complete when you cross the timing loop at pit-out. **Transponder needs to swap with every kart swap. You will keep your transponder through the entire qualifying and race. ONLY the new driver may get the transponder and place it on the NEW kart. No outside help for transponder or seatbelt. Pit-Road rules: You must stop (a complete stop) ((the driver’s responsibility)) before all designated stop signs. Not stopping will result in a stop-and-go. We will have a tape line designating the stop sign line. Yellow Caution Flags/Lights: If the yellow caution flags/lights are waving there is no passing the competitor in front of you. You must slow down as you approach and pass the accident. Once you pass the scene you may resume racing. Red Flags/Lights: Come to a controlled stop on track without passing the kart in front of you. When the track is ready for moving karts, we will resume under full course caution with the field bunched up behind our safety kart. When the track is ready to go green the pace kart will pull off the track and all karts in line may accelerate when the head flagger waves the green flag, but cannot pass until passed start finish. Black Flag: You may receive a black flag for a number of reasons, but the most common is ‘punting’ another kart or karts off the track. If a driver moves another kart off the racing surface the aggressor will receive a black flag and must come down pit road for a stop-and-go penalty. (No kart swap may occur). Meatball Flag: A driver will receive this flag when a kart repeatedly goes four wheels off the racing surface or if there’s an obvious mechanical problem with the gokart. The driver should pull into the kart swap lane and get out of the kart and go to scales. We will then talk to that driver. A new driver will resume in a new kart. Fuel: The karts will last approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. If you run out of fuel on track, we will not credit your lost laps. If you should run out of fuel on track, you must remain in the kart until an official attends to you. End of Race: We will signal the overall leader and the entire field 2 laps to go with race clock anywhere in the 2 minutes left block of time--(2:59 to 2:00) we will signal one lap to go with a white flag and the end of race with the checkered flag. Classes: (Weight is available at the track for ballast) Pro-Am Light: 175+ Individual driver weight Pro-Am Heavy: 200+ Individual driver weight Novice*: 210+ Team Average weight *This class is designed for the competitors new to karting and/or new to racing. This is a great way to come out with friends, race and have a good time knowing that you’re not directly competing with team’s that have hundreds of laps and years of experience. *It is the Race Director's decision if a team should be placed out of Novice and into Pro-Am FAQ: What if my kart breaks on track? The driver must stay in the kart and wait for a GoPro Motorplex employee to bring another kart to them. If we see the kart has a mechanical failure to no fault of the driver, we will credit your laps/time lost. If the kart is broken due to the driver or runs out of fuel, we will not credit your laps/time lost. If the broken down kart needs to be retrieved by GoPro Motorplex staff, we will red flag the race. Why do you have ‘kart swaps’ instead of a team using the same kart for the whole race? Though we make every effort to have the karts as equal as possible, we use the ‘kart swap’ method to keep the race as fair as possible. Will we race in the rain? Yes, we will race in the rain. If the conditions become dangerous we will red flag the current overall leader and wait for conditions to improve. If the race is 50% or more complete and we can’t finish the race by 9pm, the results will be final from the last completed lap. What if more than one team has to start in the rear from breaking a rule? We will start the teams in chronological order from when they were penalized.
