Orchids on Your Windowsills: the Best Orchids for Indoor Growers

Do orchid shows make you green with envy? Do you admire orchids but think you can’t grow them?  Although many require exacting conditions, many others are within the reach of an open mind and steady watering can. It’s a matter of selection and this month Jim Freeman will tell you what to select and why. Replace “I bought that” with “I grew that” and exchange the green of envy for a green thumb. Come to the Indoor Gardening Society and learn all about easy orchids.

Jim Freeman has been growing orchids in windows, basements, balconies and office cubicles for years. An ex-lawyer, he teaches religious studies and writing at St. Francis College in Brooklyn. He is a past President of the Manhattan Orchid Society, has taught orchid classes at the NYBG, and has written articles for magazines, orchid society newsletters, and on the web.

Sponsored by the Indoor Gardening Society of N.Y.

About the Indoor Gardening Society...

IGS is a great way to introduce adults and children to the importance of green plants. The more you know about botany and growing things, the more you understand their impact on every aspect of your life and their importance to human survival. Plants beautify your home and freshen the air in it. They are determining factors in many aspects of human history and development. Plants will heighten your appreciation of the outdoors and bring it inside for you to enjoy year-round. At each of our monthly meetings members enjoy:

-a lecture or program about a horticulture-related topic

-a plant sale making rare and unusual plants available at reasonable prices

-an exhibition of spectacular specimens often unknown to people outside the plant hobbyist world and often unseen at botanical gardens.

-access to supplies and information that can turn anyone from a novice to a successful grower

Become a member of IGS at your first meeting and receive a free plant on the spot!

-$25 yearly membership includes your entire family

More info at the facebook page of the Indoor Gardening Society of New York or call[masked] or email [masked]. We look forward to seeing you!
