How did you become interested in permaculture?

I was always interested in permaculture. One day I learned there was a word for it. I don't remember what day that was, but I became very happy then.

If you have taken a Permaculture Design Course, who was your was your teacher and what year did you receive your certification?

Andrew Faust 2009, Starhawk 2012

How are you currently applying the permaculture principles in your life? (Care of people and the earth, fair distribution of surplus, promotion of diversity, cooperation, integration, zero waste, etc.:

At Children's Magical Garden we apply social & physical permaculture. I'm on the boards of NYCCGC & More Gardens! with a specifically social permaculture agenda. With my partner I'm also looking for land for a retreat center for community gardeners-- again emphasizing the social aspects of permaculture, as well as group healing/ ability to thrive as a team long-term. I'm focused on the spiritual (non-denominational) aspects of nature and how they help heal individuals & communities. is where I write about that.

What are some of your favorite permaculture resources? (Books, videos, websites, etc.)

Gaia's Garden, Gardening at the Dragon's Gate, the Empowerment Manuel

What are some aspects of life in New York that you would like to see the group address from a permaculture perspective? (For example: land use patterns, the banking and healthcare systems, transportation, housing, community development, food, waste

Community development. I want more empowerment of diverse communities. My area is with youth development and empowerment. Children and youth get it. They just need the tools. I'd love to see more youth scholarships to good permie programs and am working to make that happen.

I'm a writer, herbalist & director of Children's Magical Garden on the L.E.S. We need more permies help there! please email at [masked] More about my work Art+Nature=Magic at
