Hi Nicole & Sean...

I sent you an email in May about our Sustainable Barn Building project (which is almost completed) and wanted to let you know about a workshop that's happening here later this month.  If you or anyone else you know might be interested I would appreciate you passing the information along.  Many thanks!  Rachel

Food ReSkilling Series

Do you want to become more self sustaining?
Do you want to raise more of your own food?

Raising Meat Rabbits
September 25 & 26, 2010
10 am - 6pm

Come learn the noble art of raising rabbits for meat.  Rabbits require little space and are perfect for city dwellers, small homesteaders and those looking to enhance their self sustainability.  We raise American Chinchilla Rabbits which are a rare heritage rabbit on the American Livestock Conservancy list of breeds that are becoming extinct.  These rabbits are very calm with excellent temperments, they are good mothers consistently birthing large litters.  American Chinchillas are listed on the Ark of Taste for the Slow Food Movement.

You will spend the weekend learning Organic Rabbit Husbandry including:

                Food & Supplements
Housing (plans for cages, nest boxes and hanging cage system included)
                Health & Maintenance
                Breeding & Genetics
Butchering & Culinary Preparation (with a professional USDA processor)

By the conclusion of this workshop you will have the information, supplies and confidence needed to begin your own herd of rabbits that will provide meat, fur and organic compost for you and your family for many years to come.  Lunch is included with the workshop and there are a number of options to choose from:

Workshop - $100 single person, $160 per Couple

Workshop with 1 cage - $130, For Couples $190

Workshop with Breeding Pair (2) of Rabbits - $130, For Couples $190

Workshop with 1 Cage & Breeding Pair (2) of Rabbits - $150, For Couples $210

Additional Rabbits - $20 each, 3 for $50

Additional cages and cage materials may also be available please let us know if youre interested when you register.

Overnite accommodations are also available at our Organic Farm/Retreat Center for an additional cost (substantially discounted for workshop attendees) of $50 per nite/per person -- food is included with an overnite.
