In fact, I wholeheartedly believe that local currency on a wide scale could both undermine the existing system (I am in favor of the existing system's demise) and provide a safety net once the currency system collapses. I think OWSers should consider using a local currency system in Lower Manhattan, to show they are proactively attempting to change the system into something more sustainable.
