I posted this to the nytech meetup and pylons list, then realized  
there might be a nyc python group.  hi all!

the super-quick synopsis of below:

	one of the startups that I work with needs to scale up on  
developers / engineering
	right now our entire stack is in Pylons
	the user facing stuff will stay in Pylons
	select backend operations will be migrated to an SOA model , probably  
in erlang , scala, or c.  familiarity with python for those roles is  
key.

we're probably going to make 6 hires in the next 3 months.  jr, mid- 
career and sr. experience

A stealth company I work with is preparing to start a new investment  
round, and I'm preparing to start spending it !

We're building out the product & engineering teams and, as I run that  
stuff , I'm starting to collect resumes and network a bit so we can  
hit the ground running.

About what you'd be working on in the short term:

We've had successful prototypes and fieldtests on our v0 products.
We've begun work rewriting it to a v1 consumer web product based on  
Python and Postgres.
We're also redoing + expanding our Desktop/Mobile applications.
Based on current partner commitments, we're projecting scaling issues  
several months from public launch. Development on our core UX will  
stay in Python, but we need to architect a backend infrastructure that  
can handle things. We're leaning towards Erlang, but it could be in C/C 
++, Scala/Lift or something else.

This doesn't sound exciting / sexy , because we can't publicly  
disclose anything about the product yet - but its hott.
You'll be in the first batch of hires and have considerable influence  
in the architecture of a service that tens of millions of people will  
shortly be using through our partners. We also care very much about  
things being transaction safe, and like to derive (and intuitively  
display) lots of analytics.


What We're Looking for :

Back-End Developers & Infrastructure Engineers
Preferred Competencies:
Python , Postgres ( or Oracle )
Bonus Points for experience with any of the following buzzwords:
Erlang , C/C++ servers , Scala/Lift, highly scaled systems &  
networking [ ad servers, social networks, etc that handle 10s of  
millions of hits daily ], large scalable mail tracking systems, nosql  
implementations ( riak, cassandra , mongodb ), SOA, Thrift/Avro
Note:
If you think you're a great dev/engineer with varied experience that  
doesn't match the above, please do connect. BUT if you've only done  
php/mysql websites, you honestly won't work out.

Front-End Devs :
Required Competencies :
You write html / css / js by hand in a text-editor.

Application Developers :
Required Competencies :
Writing applications for Windows or OSX or linux/bsd
Bonus Points for experience with:
iphone , android , windows mobile , etc

to fill slots in all levels in the next few months -- jr, sr, and mid- 
range. This could be your first job, your last job, or anywhere in  
between. We'll be building out a full team.
