Public service announcement re: our drink-ups and event messages (followed by a happy announcement)

Certain things are getting a bit out of hand, and so this announcement
has become necessary.

Posting messages on any of our event pages which advertise any event,
class, job, _any_ form of advertisement will get you banned and reported
to Meetup as a spammer, and your post will be deleted. Our space will
not be degraded by advertisements.

Posting your own events as suggested events for our group will get you
banned, reported as a spammer, and the post will be deleted.

Advertising our events as your own is prohibited (yes, this has
happened, in one class announcement we found online, where our Tuesday
weekly office hours were advertised as their class office hours), and
we're prepared to take whatever action necessary to remedy the situation
once it's discovered.

Recruiters and hiring managers are not allowed at any of our events,
with the conditional exception of drink-ups. Recruiters usually sneak
into our drink-ups and try to blend in, sticking out like sore thumbs.
Recruiters: If you want to announce that you are recruiters, and you
want to sponsor drinks for us, let us know ahead of time, and you can
join us. If you're going to stand around and pretend not to be
recruiters while trying to slip people business cards, this is going to
backfire against you, and will be a bit embarrassing for you. There's a
game, much like Where's Waldo, that developers play regarding sneaky
recruiters, and I guarantee you that you don't want to be Waldo in this
game.

Some good news, we crossed the 3000 member mark this morning, and we now
have two weekly study groups in addition to our weekly office hours.
We've come a long way since I first joined this group. Welcome new
members, and thank you, regulars. Your enthusiasm and desire to learn
and share information is simply awesome, and makes this community great.
I am honored to be a part of it.

If you have suggestions on anything we could be doing differently, feel
free to reach out any/all organizers.

Thank you,
Gloria
