Hi Devon. There are three schools, and the schedule depends on which school you are teaching in. See below. Let me know if you're interested in speaking with the director, and I can put you in touch.

Volunteer Opportunities

Tue & Thu 3-4:30pm
Inwood Early College for Health and Information Technologies
650 Academy St (Inwood)

Fridays 1-5pm
South Bronx Early College Academy
423 E. 138th St (South Bronx)

Fridays 2-6pm

Volunteering ABCs

  • We ask you to commit to at least two hours a week at a site for a semester (Sept-Jan, Feb-May)
  • You will be supporting our students as they create a performance piece that cleverly integrates dance with computer programming.
  • During our orientation session, you will learn all of the info you need to be an awesome volunteer

Hi - what sort of time commitment are you seeking?  Also, where would the instruction take place?

Hi all, STEM from Dance is looking for anyone with coding and preferably teaching experience for weekly volunteering to teach low-income, minority high school women how to animate figures with Processing. This is part of a really great program to get more young women interested in STEM geared college education while building confidence and motivation. I'm volunteering myself as an assistant.

The only requirements are to be familiar with the Khan Academy course enough to lead the students and teach them what they need to know each week for that activity. It's a semester long course. The students also choreograph dances with strong positive messaging, and the animations are for their set backdrops projected behind them while they perform.

It's a wonderful program but they have had really bad luck with finding coding leads this year. PLEASE contact them right away if you or anyone you know is interested. Thank you!!

STEM From Dance uses dance to grow the number of low-income, minority girls who are STEM college-ready. And we are looking for a Lead STEM Coach - someone with coding and teaching experience who is also an incredible leader and motivator. Check out the job description and apply ASAP! And visit our website to learn more about STEM From Dance!
