  • Wellington: IoT & NetApp Hands On

    Spark Central

Another hands-on session, this time bridging the gap between New Zealand and the public cloud using ONTAP & some fun little devices. Yes, and pizza. As a bonus, we have a couple really savvy cloud & open source geeks over from Sydney! Especially if you haven't done this before - or just want to watch - we'll walk you through the process. We're going to connect up some tiny measuring devices to a Raspberry Pi, replicate that data across the globe and trigger events from the public cloud. Specifically, we'll be using Wemos, a Raspberry Pi, ONTAP Select, Cloud Volumes ONTAP. If you're someone who wants to get deep in the weeds, bring your laptop & have Arduino IDE installed on it. We're limiting to 20 people so there's enough gear (and pizza) to go around, so please RSVP! :)

  • Wellington: Containers & Automation with Andrew Sullivan

    Location visible to members

We have decided the time is right to kick off the Wellington branch of the New Zealand NetApp User Group (NUG)! With the NUG, we are creating an environment of a flowing of ideas among like-minded technically-savvy individuals who have incorporated NetApp into their infrastructure. Our first guest speaker will be Andrew Sullivan, visiting from NetApp in the US, and leads our Open Ecosystems team. This team focuses on our open source integrations across the portfolio at NetApp. This includes Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, OpenStack, Puppet/Chef/Ansible, Jenkins, as they integrate with the ONTAP, SolidFire, and E-Series storage platforms. As one of NetApp’s developer advocates, Andrew spends a bunch of time ensuring that the APIs, SDKs, and other tools in the portfolio for enabling the code-based consumption of storage are represented in the community, and the community is represented inside the company. He claims to be a PowerShell expert and advocate, and a wannabe Python maven (his words, not mine!). When he is not doing his day-job, he is busy being a host on NetApp’s Tech ONTAP podcast. Please note, this is the Wellington event, one is also scheduled for Auckland. Looking forward to seeing you!

This Auckland NZNUG Meetup we are honoured to have Andrew Sullivan visiting us from NetApp in the US, who leads the Open Ecosystems team. The team focuses on our open source integrations across the portfolio at NetApp. This includes Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, OpenStack, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins -- you name it! -- as they integrate with the ONTAP, SolidFire, and E-Series platforms. As one of NetApp’s developer advocates, Andrew spends a bunch of time ensuring that the APIs, SDKs, and other tools in the portfolio for enabling the code-based consumption of storage are represented in the community, and the community is represented inside the company. Check it out here: https://soundcloud.com/techontap_podcast Looking forward to showing you some of the great things we've been up to. Please note, as spaces are limited in the Tin Tin Room we politely ask you to only accept if you know you can attend, thank you! [This is the Auckland Meetup, there is also a Wellington Meetup the next day!]

  • A glimpse through Biggles' goggles

    Brew Bar on Quay

In our continual quest to keep the NZ-NUG 'current, relevant and informative' our next meeting will be a more casual affair - we are calling it: "A glimpse through Biggles' goggles!" One of NetApp's CTO Ambassadors, Matt "Biggles" Swinbourne, will be in town and we have him for the evening! Matt will cover the newly announced NetApp HCI tech, discuss the growing relationship between data and multi-cloud environments and give an update on the latest happenings in ONTAP - and he might even let you ask some questions! We look forward to seeing you for a few beers and a good yarn at Brew on Quay from 5 PM on the 20th of July.

  • Auckland: Hands on Session with AWS & Azure ONTAP Cloud

    Location visible to members

This is first in a two-part hands-on series where we will teach you about AWS and Azure ONTAP Cloud. ONTAP Cloud runs as a virtual machine inside AWS/Azure - with the same features and interface as ONTAP in your datacenters. Based on 9.1, you'll be able to get direct experience with the latest features and using hyperscaler services. Bring a laptop, and we'll take care of the rest. We will look at deploying, high availability (inside AWS) and hopefully replicating between clouds. We will follow-on from this in about a month's time with a full hack-a-thon where we will integrate these ONTAP Cloud instances with Raspberry Pi's running a local service that will be given away at the end as prizes. Join us for a few meters of Toto's Pizza and a selection of microbrews (and non-alcoholic options)! We will also cover relevant updates like the new AutoSupport Portal and OneCollect (replacement for nSANity!) FYI - this is an Auckland-based event.
