Dear Head Organizer (William),

As is wisely the default setting for Meetup groups, on your please change the settings from what it appears to be now ("No. Only Organizers can add new Meetups") to the default value "An Organizer announces them OR 3 Members say they're going" or (if it doesn't get abused) to "A Member suggests them".

This will allow ordinary members (me, and 589 more) to be able to suggest Meetup events which then the other members can vote for via their RSVPs. While still preserving your full control (to say cancel or reschedule or edit the event) as the Head Organizer.

As mentioned, this is the wise default setting on Meetup, as it allows notably greater participation by members including for the group to be able to run itself somewhat even when all group leader(s) are unreachable. It also can significantly help reduce the burden on group leaders to list all the events. Indeed, on quick look, OC-PHP is one of the only groups I can think of (in the about 20 I a member of) which does not allow this, and I can see no benefit to not doing this.

Indeed I think I have mentioned this to you before, as the present unusually-restrictive setting has prevented me from quickly sharing (at least on the site) events I ran across quite relating to OC-PHP, including yet another one now again that I want to share on the calendar but can't, why I then post this request here.

Thanks for your attention to this. Looking forward to your reply.

  • LY1QM1=No, I am mistaken. Effectively nothing has been changed -- NOT GOOD; to be precise:
LY1QQ0=the important thing to fix, the SETTING, has not been fixed- no change!
LY1QQK=But what mislead me to think it had been fixed is the way now Meetup display it: Now in both cases, Meetup displays "SUGGEST A NEW MEETUP". But on this produces (a prompt to send email to the organizer, NOT (a form to draft up a real meetup AS IT DOES ON MOST GROUPS PER THE DEFAULT TO DO SO --which I explain in my 1st post).
  • LY1QNX=I see this is also similarly set (messed up) on , another group William now heads.
  • LY1QVD=Please fix this today as soon as you read this (takes seconds for the Head Organizer to fix and I need it immediately (to do above SCALE10x listing LY0QHO)) and just reply to let me & all know; else please post reply explaining why such an unusual extreme is truly necessary.
  • LY1R1M=As Meetup won't alert group head William until midnight, post Greet

The groups u head & have an unusual & bad admin setting which will&is causing important loss in member participation, including for me, back in August, and again right now: mbrs can't draft a proposed event, so preventing me from drafting a proposed listing for this Fri-Sun SCALE10x. So pls right now take 5min & follow-up on -thx in adv.
