Why join you ask? Answer: the oceans are vital to us!......coral reefs, ocean temperature, and sea level rise and its associated threat to costal cities, just to name a few.  These and many more are possible topics.

So, let us discuss these and other topics the group can focus on, to see what we land-locked folks can do to promote ocean ecology. No scientific background is necessary to join the group,  just objective interest in our oceans and forests.  Keep the conversation going!

The organizer already developed several possible topics for discussion based on his research.  These are available when you click "Pages" tab  below the Meetup title "Ocean Huggers". (To view the "Pages" tab  requires selecting "Desktop View" at the bottom of organizer's android display,  possibly I-phone too;  whereas not required on a desktop or tablet).

These "Pages" articles vary. Take for example the one titled at "International Coral Reef Symposium ICRS abstracts" at Honolulu in 2016.  It contains a link to that symposium 's list of abstracts for presentations and papers.

The "Pages" article titled "Short version (1st Calculation) 74 cubic km",  is a short summary regarding organizer's calculation of 74km of deforestation water delivered to oceans each year. The full story of how that calculation came about and its concurrence by Brazilian atmospheric research scientists can be read at another "Pages" article titled "1st calculation, Brazilian Email Correspondence".
