Simon Pegg plays a mystery writer who’s been researching serial killers, immersing himself in the subject matter so thoroughly that he has become fearful of every noise and shadow. An appointment with a TV producer draws him out of his dingy apartment, and the journey confirms his premonitions that someone – maybe everyone – is out to get him. Pegg’s unrelentingly manic performance, Paul Freeman’s as his psychiatrist, a few inspired fantasy sequences, and a memorably crazy resolution to the plot make up for some pedestrian scenes.
