Photo Walk: Ferry Building Farmer's Market and surrounds

FREE Photo Walk: Ferry Building Farmer's Market and surrounds

Hello Strobists,

Photowalks are resuming again and as some of you "old timers" know, my photowalks add the unique element of off-camera flash and talking to and photographing willing strangers to the mix. But don't let this frighten you off. Everybody is welcome and there are no pre-requisites other than wanting to hang out with a bunch of other enthusiastic photographers.

August is the height of summer fruits and vegetables. We will visit one of the best Farmer's Markets in the Bay Area, with the beautiful Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge as additional attractions. This is a perfect opportunity for photographing everything from still life to interesting characters, architecture and seascapes.

We'll explore the Farmer's Market, the Ferry Building setting and the ferry terminal behind it, then wander over to Pier 14 which juts into the Bay right in front of the Bay Bridge and Yerba Buena island. If you're game for more, the Bow and Arrow are just a few more steps away and in the other direction you'll run into famous Fisherman's Wharf.

This event is suitable for all photographers, no matter what level you are it. There won't be any formal lectures or talks, but come along and you may discover something new about San Francisco or learn a new trick that will improve your photography skills.

I look forward to seeing familiar faces as well as meeting new strobists.

Cheers,

Christine

How to find us:

The space in front of the Ferry Building will be teeming with food stalls and people, so we will meet near the streetcar stop nearest the pedestrian walkway in front of the Ferry Building before you cross the street.

Definitely lots to photograph. The plaza was overflowing with people and all sorts of yummy food. (Lots of samples!). The assignment I gave was "The Essence of..."

So inspired by the walk yesterday, the ferry/farmers mkt venue was the perfect spot for an abundance of great shots. Thank you!

Hi ChrstIne- was an hour late and had a hard time locating you all. I did stay and must have approached 3-4 red heads think it was you. I took lots of photos and wore myself out going to the Arrow statue and bridge walk. Is it okay if a post a few photos?

    Sorry I missed everyone.

I want to learn more about off camera flash this year so look forward to some of your upcoming events.

I am thinking of taking the ferry, but won't arrive until about 10:30am, are you going to be following any plan as to where you might be if I do this?

We'll work our way from the front, then thru the building to the back. We'll finish at Pier 14.

Hi Christine, just checking if we should bring our speedlights and/or reflectors? Not sure if they'll be useful or not.. cheers.

Hi Gerrard - absolutely, if you want to play around with OCF. Just stay portable and light afoot, that is no lightstands and tripods. we can help each other out, holding a second flash or reflector.

Some of you might be confused or frustrated about whether you made it in or not. I've set the waitlist to automatic. So when someone changes their RSVP to NO, a message is sent automatically to the next person on the WL. I believe that person then still has to confirm with a YES, as people will often be on the WL, but then make other plans. Why do I limit attendance at my photowalks? As some "old timers" know, I interact a lot with everybody, including some instruction and even an OCF demo. Smaller groups provide an entirely different learning experience. So, if you don't get in this time, sign up early for my next photowalk which will be coming soon.
