Hike at Noon: Nisene Loma Prieta / Bridge Creek Loop

The winter gate is still open. Let's get in one more hike at Nisene before the rains come.

• Distance: ~6 miles

• Accumulated elevation gain: ~600 ft

• Exposure: Mostly shady

• Bring: water, snacks, tick repellent, hiking sticks. Bring your State Parking Pass if you have one.

• Carpooling: We will meet at the dirt parking lot on Aptos Creek Road next to the Epicenter Cycling shop. We'll carpool to Nisene Marks summer gate at the Porter Picnic Area. Bring a CA State Parking Pass if you have one, or $2 as your share of the $8 parking fee.

We will start this shady hike from Porter Picnic Area via Aptos Creek Fire Rd and Loma Prieta Grade Trail to the crossing at Bridge Creek. Then we'll loop back via Bridge Creek Trail, and pause at the Mill Pond Bridge (Buddha Bridge) before returning to Porter.

There are some steep places with protruding roots, one bridge-less creek crossing with rock scrambling and balancing.

Beautiful hike in good company. It was really nice to warm up as we hiked in the cool and crisp air under a very blue sky. Lovely!

I had imagined Bridge Creek to be dark & cool today. Yet we encountered the creek gurgling merrily along, its air temp almost warmish, bathed in a soft orange light, and absorbed by us, its grateful companions.
