Slab Camp Trail #838
Details
This is a 6 mile out-and-back trail. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes about 3.5 hours to complete. Elevation gain is 1375 feet.
We hike close to 3 miles through the Buckhorn Wilderness forest down to the Gray Wolf river. The trail slopes gently at the start, then starts to descend more steeply before getting to a junction with the Slab Camp Creek and following it down to the Gray Wolf River.
At the river we'll take a rest at the camp site, have a snack and then head back. The elevation gain is all on our way back up.
We'll meet at 10am at the Slab Camp Trailhead which is on FR 2875 exactly 9.6 miles from the Mobil gas station at the corner of Taylor Cutoff Rd and 101. From the Mobil gas station drive 5.2 miles on Taylor Cutoff Rd which transitions to become Lost Mountain Rd. Turn left onto Slab Camp Rd. Drive 0.9 miles and turn right. Drive an additional 3.5 miles to the Slab Camp/Deer Ridge trailheads. Lots of parking available.
