DC Area Online News Association Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

  • Nov 18, 2010 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Hello ONADCers!

With Smartphones and tablets quickly becoming one of the most popular ways for consumers to access their news, what are some examples of news & journalism mobile app categories out there that might be worth looking into for my news organization? What are some important considerations in picking the right “app concept” and getting buy-in within my organization?

The Online News Association invites you to a discussion focusing on mobile news apps, Thursday, Nov. 18th, 6.30 p.m. at Busboys & Poets (14th & V Street). Experts from Intridea, the creators of the popular News Reader apps, Mashable for iPad & Android; and Citizen Reporting apps, Oil Reporter for Android, iPad and iPhone, will discuss some case studies and answer questions from the group.

Joining us to sort through these questions will be Brendan Lim, director of mobile development at Intridea, and Julian Mellicovsky, mobile strategist. Stay tuned for more!

Cheers,

Laura, Tiffany and Matt

This was my first time attending the ONA- DC Meetup, and I thought that it was great. People were friendly, helpful and the conversations were productive.

Fantastic speakers! Really appreciated hearing perspective from those not directly inside journalism, but obviously working closely w/"our folks" and passionate about the field. And of course, great to see all my DC journo friends, and meet some new ones as well. Delighted to be back with the #ONADC group I know and love!

It was my first meetup, too. A few of you have encouraged me to come to one for months, but it was never possible, so I was very excited to attend...but it was not what I expected-- I thought it would be more social and less lecture. I agree with Doug Mitchell. People I wanted to talk to had to leave by the time the presentation finally ended. I liked the venue, though.

Presenters need to keep to 30 minutes max and not have four people doing the presenting. Needed to converse with people there and didn't get the chance. People left during the presentation and once they finally finished nearly everyone else left too. No issues with subject matter, just too long and prevented any meaningful conversation.

It was my first ONA DC meeting. Enjoyed meeting everyone and learned a great deal from the presentation. Thank you for organizing this! Look forward to attending more similar events. Until next month!

Pretty tight space, and the presentation was very long.

Meg -- It is indeed on a Thursday. We like to switch it up every once in a while!

Is this meant to be on Thursday, and not a Tuesday? Just wondering.
