What we're about

Please Note: the advice given in these meetings may not be best for everyone and is not a substitute for individualized assistance by a financial professional.

This is a group for anyone interested in personal finance, financial literacy, financial freedom, etc. All skill levels are welcome. On the outset, this will start as a financial book club with discussion groups each month, but my goal for the group is to morph into an investment / financial consciousness group with active steps towards decreasing debt, increasing income, and ultimately achieving early retirement and total financial freedom. Let's explore money together.

Discussion: Overcoming Underearning: A Five-Step Plan to a Richer Life

We will discuss the book Overcoming Underearning: A Five-Step Plan to a Richer Life by Barbara Stanny. You do not need to have read the book to join the discussion but it is strongly encouraged.

"When it comes to money, are you controlled by fear? Do you underestimate your worth? Are you ready to go to the next level, but can't seem to get there? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be an underearner. Underearners are self-saboteurs who don't live up to their earnings potential, says Barbara Stanny, a financial educator, motivational speaker, and career counselor. Whether they make $10 an hour or six figures a year, they tend to live paycheck to paycheck, are often in debt, and have a high tolerance for low pay. Ironically, many work incredibly hard.

The good news is that underearning is a self-imposed condition. By focusing on overcoming it, underearners will not only earn what they deserve, but live a richer life. With techniques and exercises that have helped thousands of people, Stanny teaches five essential steps to financial independence and brings a message of empowerment to all those who chronically undervalue themselves."

We will discuss the book Quit Like a Millionaire: No Gimmicks, Luck, or Trust Fund Required by Kristy Shen and Bryce Leung. You do not need to have read the book to join the discussion but it is strongly encouraged.

"From two leaders of the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement, a bold, contrarian guide to retiring at any age, with a reproducible formula to financial independence

A bull***t-free guide to growing your wealth, retiring early, and living life on your own terms

Kristy Shen retired with a million dollars at the age of 31, and she did it without hitting a home run on the stock market, starting the next Snapchat in her garage, or investing in hot real estate. Learn how to cut down on spending without decreasing your quality of life, build a million-dollar portfolio, fortify your investments to survive bear markets and black-swan events, and use the four percent rule and the Yield Shield - so you can quit the rat race forever. Not everyone can become an entrepreneur or a real estate baron; the rest of us need Shen's mathematically proven approach to retire decades before 65."

Discussion: Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement

Link visible for attendees

We will discuss the book Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement: The Secret to Freedom, Flexibility, and Financial Independence (& how to get started!) by Rachel Richards. You do not need to have read the book to join the discussion but it is strongly encouraged.

"Finance guru, former financial advisor, and Amazon bestselling author of Money Honey, Rachel Richards has one goal in mind: teaching you everything you need to know to become financially free earlier than you ever thought possible. At age 27, Rachel quit her job and retired, living off $10,000+ per month in passive income streams. Let her show you how to do it at any age—it's never too late.

What is passive income? Passive income is earned with little to no ongoing work. It's no get-rich-quick scheme, but once your passive income exceeds your expenses, you are set for life.

If you regularly feel the Sunday Scaries or always dread getting up for work in the morning, this book is for you. This book is for the college student already dreading the 9-5 life that waits him upon graduating; the couple who would rather spend their time doing what they want, instead of slaving away for their employers every day; and the single parent who is barely scraping by.

Regardless of your WHY, passive income could be your HOW."
