Lakeisha,

I would like to put the Universal Sister' event on the calendar. Both men and women take away great health information. The event is Dec 3rd. The registration fee is $50. I will send a flyer and other info, if you will add this to the calendar. I am helping with the planning.CET

Hi folks,

It's hard to believe this year is almost at an end. While this year has been full of amazing events, I'm pleased to announce that a few more are on the horizon.  The next upcoming event is tomorrow at Savvy Cellar Wine Bar and Wine Shop conveniently located in downtown Mountain View. Savvy Cellar specializes in organic and 90-point wines at reasonable prices. As the title suggests, this event it will be a fundraiser for Compass Family Services' Adopt-A-Family program.

To RSVP for the event, please click here.

So you may be wondering, what is this whole Adopt A Family fundraiser?  Well, as you may know Onyx isn't solely about social and business events- we are also committed to participating in events that benefit our community. Afterall, we cannot be truly successful with a mentality that every individual should only worry about themselves and in the end things will work out for the best.

Compass’ Adopt-a-Family project pairs individuals or groups from the community with needy families who lack the resources to buy holiday gifts.  For many families, these gifts are the only ones they will receive this holiday season.  Last year, Adopt-a-Family reached more than 400 families.

Last year, courtesy of Onyx member Julia, we participated by sponsoring two families for the holiday, through a combination of cash donations and donations. The generosity of Onyx members was incredible and inspiring. This year, we want to up our number to five families. The profiles on each family are posted on the event page. In order to provide gifts for each family, we seek to raise about between $1,000-$1,500 total depending on the gift donations we receive.

So how can you help us? Well, first, you can attend tomorrow's event and give a donation of $10 or any other amount you feel like giving (we can use all the help you can offer). Alternatively, if you have a gift or a gift card you would like to donate, please email me at [address removed] (please email me off meetup- sometimes messages go to meetup heaven and I never receive them). Another alternative is you can sign up to make an online donation here. Anything you can contribute will be much appreciated.

So in aside from providing an opportunity for us to do something small but meaningful to help people in need in our community, it will also be an excellent opportunity to socialize. It will be a particularly great opportunity for new members to come out so if you've never made it out but are curious about Onyx, give it a try.

I plan to arrive early and will order appetizers for the group. Finding us will likely be as simple as looking for other black folks.  If you have any issues finding the group, please text or call me at[masked] 4103.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading and I really hope to seen you tomorrow.

-Lakeisha
