• Mapping empty retail spaces in downtown Walnut Creek

There are dozens of empty retail spaces in downtown Walnut Creek. Why? Is it possible to make better use of this space to enhance the experience for citizens, local businesses, and property owners alike? We'll grab our phones, split into small groups, and walk a 3-4 block radius downtown snapping pictures of empty retail places in order to develop an open, community-curated dataset that we can use to improve Walnut Creek.

  • Basics of Civic Technology

    Coffee Shop

I'm rebooting Open Walnut Creek given the very limited attendance to "hack night." I'm experimenting with a variety of socially oriented topics that overlap with technology. We'll still meet at The Coffee Shop (or online via the Code for America Slack #openwalnutcreek) channel to develop more focused discussions and projects.

  • Open Walnut Creek

    Coffee Shop

This is the Meetup page for Open Walnut Creek, a Code for America Brigade. Open Walnut Creek is an informal group of civic-minded people interested in improving public services and communities. Join us Tuesday nights in downtown Walnut Creek where we'll meetup to chat, explore, or work on projects. This is a great place to share skills with others. Bring yourself (maybe a friend) and a curiosity about our interconnected world. Maybe bring a project or idea to collaborate on: code, data, design, 3d, urban planning, architecture, user research, prototyping. What change do you want to see in the world? https://twitter.com/openwalnutcreek https://github.com/openwalnutcreek

  • Civic Hacking Night at Victory Workspace

    Victory Workspace

Building on the momentum of #opendataday Contra Costa Civic Hackathon at Victory Workspace (Walnut Creek) in March, we are hosting a monthly meetup to continue with our civic 🏛 projects in the same spirit of problem-solving, sharing, and learning together. Join us at Victory Workspace in Downtown Walnut Creek 🌳 for an evening of civic hacking. Use your software or design skills to help local governments in Contra Costa County. We provide a comfortable coworking space, great wi-fi and dinner. This is a great way to enhance your technical knowledge while benefiting the community. Projects will be available at https://github.com/ContraCostaCivic before we meet. Hosted by Victory Workspace. NOTE: This the same event as https://www.meetup.com/Coworking-Walnut-Creek/events/262417459/ - so only need to sign up once, for either.
