The blown caps theory is sound.  Would have to inspect mobo's and kvm to be sure.   My bet would be on the KVM.

I kept having KVM's go bad as well, so when I rebuilt my server this last time (and added two more for ESXi), I went for full on server boards with built in IP KVM features and ditched the physical KVM.  I will say that trying to get the IP KVM's to work under Linux is sometimes "amusing", but I finally got it going.
