Announcing a new Meetup for Dallas Open Source Saturday!

What: Dallas Open Source Saturday March Meetup

When: Saturday, March 6,[masked]:00 AM

Los Lupes ~ Addison
3855 Belt Line Rd
Addison, TX 75001

March Meeting motto is "Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto". (Cheesy, but John liked it.)

We have a special guest presenter, Eric Chaney, from the DPRG, Dallas Personal Robotics Group, He is going to bring in some robots and talk about Arduino, Parallax, Mindstorms, BoeBot,, etc. development.

They are a 501(c)3 Non Profit Educational Organization. Currently they are in the middle of a fund drive to start a Makerspace / hackerspace / a shared community workshop in Dallas. The web site is at:
Planned is a workshop with CNC machines, laser cutters, and dark room
for circuit etching, along with a computer lab. And whatever else they can cram in. Check out the pics from their last lab! I'll be donating. :)

Eric says they are also having a Robot Competition on May 9th. It will be an indoor / outdoor event using GPS, beacons, colored lights or whatever for a mini Darpa Grand Challenge.

John is still in production mode with a deadline at work, so he didn't make any real progress on a new meeting spot. He also promises to stop talking in the 3rd person.

More news from the open source front, like Novell (SUSE) being offered 2 Billion dollars for the company (they have ~1 Billion in cash, so it really is a 1 Billion offer..) and Ubuntu's next LTS (Long Term Support) release coming next month.
